A Vine Grows in Tappan

Well, actually, two vines. I went to Lowe's and came home the proud possessor of two grape vines, each about a foot tall. Right away, I began with a mistake- I didn't want Chardonnay grapes because my wife doesn't like Chardonnay, so I got Concord grapes. Afterwards, I found out that Concord grapes are just fine for making the kind of wine that is a little too sweet for most tastes, including mine. And, when I researched the wine-making process, I found out the the cost of starting out would cover a case of not so bad wine. I figured, buy the wine, eat the grapes. So much for Chateau Schoppel. I planted the vines about four feet apart,so that when I build the trellis, they would arch over it, and went inside. The next morning, I went out to inspect my vineyard, and found that a deer had eaten every leaf on both plants. After joining the NRA, I went back to Lowe's and bought wire fencing. The vines now are encaged, and have leafed out again. The trellis goes in next.
