One of the nice perks of being on the Tappan
Library board of directors is that the board gets to see how the work on the addition is progressing. We had a walk-through last week, and were really impressed with how the project is going. Phase one, the rebuilding of what had been the stable and its connection to the original library building, is almost complete. The stable will now house the non-fiction collection, staff space, public meeting spaces, a tutoring room, a teen room, and children's crafts room. The craft room has very possibly the best view in Tappan
, as it sits right next to the Sparkill
Creek, the bridge that connects the park to the library, and the little waterfall beneath the bridge. Once phase one is completed, hopefully in a few weeks, the library will transfer its operations to the new areas, and phase two work will begin on the 1835 structure. Final completion date for the entire project? We were told it should be finished by the end of this November, which would make for a truly special Thanksgiving.
