Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival

The brochure arrived in the mail last week, it's that time of year again. I can start to make my spring and summer plans and to think about warm weather events.

One of my favorite events is to attend one or more performances of the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival which takes place from June 11-Sept.1 in Garrison, NY, on the grounds of Boscobel House and Gardens just one hour north of NYC.

This year the 3 shows being staged are King Lear, The Three Musketeers, and All's Well that Ends Well.

I've already contacted my local friends from Valley Cottage, Suffern, Nyack and West Nyack to see which shows and dates we can decide upon.

The planning is part of the fun...what food and wine do we bring...do we do formal or informal??? Many people bring table clothes, candles, wine and champagne glasses, others bring take out and brown bag it. Anything goes.

We arrive 2 hours before the show to stake out our spot on the lawn overlooking the Hudson River, we eat, sip wine, stroll the grounds, then go into the tent to watch what usually is a fun and exciting performance in a natural, open air setting as the sun goes down.

If you've never been, I would highly recommend that you add it to you "to do" list this year.

I love going to the Hudson Valley Shakespeare's productions every summer. It's such a treat! Especially when you prepare a nice picnic with beverages to share with friends. They've planned a great venue this summer, too. King Lear, All's Well That Ends Well, and The Three Musketeers. Maybe I'll see you there, Bonnie!
