The Great Tappan Eggnog Disaster Of 2014

On Saturday, my wife and I held our forty eighth annual holiday party.  We invite the usual gang of friends, relatives, neighbors, business associates and general hangers on,  and depending on the weather, usually fifty to seventy people show up.  It takes weeks of preparation, and days to clean up, and this year was no different, with the exception of this afternoon.  For some reason, people didn't drink the eggnog the way they usually do, and I was left with about a gallon of the stuff.  With the full bowl on the counter, I reached overhead for a large funnel hanging from the pot rack.  In the chain reaction that followed, the funnel dislodged a large pot, which landed directly onto the punch bowl, shattering it, and releasing its contents onto the countertop and floor.  Putting down newspaper was a mistake, because the eggnog quickly became the culinary equivalent of Elmer's Glue.  After scraping off the paper and mopping the floor several times, here I am, with a glass of something other than eggnog in my hand.

   Happy  Holidays!
